My mother-in-law passed on a cookbook called Heavenly Recipes from Dunker Kitchens: Over 900 Favorite Recipes Submitted by the Sisters of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Miami Valley Press, Covington, Ohio. My understanding was, maybe from reading the Laura Wilder Ingalls books, that as raisins were available year round when fresh fruit was not, winter-time funerals were graced with food like this. Deathly thoughts aside, I have used this recipe to acclaim several times and I'm sending the pie to a baby shower tonight. Enjoy!
